Focusing on Life 52 photos-self protrait

I am participating in Sally Russick’s Focusing on Life 52 photos. It is an exciting challenge and will help me better use the new digital camera I bought last year.

Sally gives us a prompt each week and we snap a photo…so excited to get the prompt on Jan 1, but oh no a self portrait are you kidding me!!!

I am not very photogenic and prefer a natural shot when I am not paying attention.  So, I snapped a few photos with my phone New Year’s morning, I will share one later.

Next, I decided to try a few shots in a mirror and learned how to use the self timer on my camera and the pictures were not in focus. The first one one I took in front of the  mirror picture I selected.

It is the most natural shot and it sums up the challenge, as I will be behind my camera this year taking my 52 weeks of photos. So after dreading my first assignment I am happy with my result.

Thanks Sally for challenging me and I look forward to 51 more photos.

And just for fun taken with my iPhone,  the runner up taken New Years morning!

  1. I love how the mirror frames your picture. It’s lovely. I really like the last photo, though. It looks so dreamy and soft.

  2. I really like the mirror pix! And I like your sweater, too. I felt the SAME way when I saw the first week. Thats whats called jumping in with both feet…

  3. I had the same reaction when I saw the first prompt..being slightly tipsy with New Years Eve champagne helped me out though!! lol…great photos, and I love the framing in the first one…excited you are doing this project too!!! Yay!

  4. I think we all felt the same way and Sally must have known it when she said not to pick apart what we saw, but it was hard not to do. Every one I took I thought I looked so stern and unfriendly! I love the shot in the mirror in color, glad we are doing this together!

  5. Three great photos–all beautiful!!!! I love the mirror frame in the first two. I took many photos but most were either very grainy or out of focus. I seriously need to find my manual otherwise it will be a very long year….

I’m looking forward to seeing more photos in the coming weeks!

  6. Love your pictures. I hope we will all come out from behind the camera more !

  7. Great pictures… I’ve given up trying to take pictures of me wearing my jewellery in the mirror… many years ago I tried to get my husband to take a picture of me wearing a new necklace… he focused the camera on a hideous burn I had on my neck… so now I make him wear the jewellery … turn him around and use his back and a white t-shirt!

    That’s a lovely mirror!

  8. Great pictures! The mirror frame is beautiful and really adds nice detail to the picture!

  9. You look like a professional photog in the first two shots!! These are awesome pictures – my favorite is the first one in color-it so captures the moment and you look beautiful! I attempted laying back and taking a photo like your third one and cut off 3/4 of my face each time I tried! LOL! You look very content in that last photo. Looking forward to next week!

  10. Great shots! I will take the mirror too!

  11. Great shots Sandi! I wish I looked that beautiful in the am. :)

  12. Wonderful shots! All three of them are great but I love the last one the best!

  13. Love these pics!! I’m just glad the self-portrait one was first so we can check that off the list and move forward! LOL!! ;-)

  14. Hi Sandi, nice to see your shining face!!

  15. Love the mirror shot.. a woman of action! The framing is neat, too.

  16. All three photos are great! I’m so glad to have this one done and over with!

  17. Sally Russick says:

Sandi, you are so photogenic! I don’t know how you don’t see that. You look beautiful!!

P.S. I love how the mirror creates a partial frame!

  18. Really great photo! it does look like you caught a natural shot with this! well done!

  19. As great as the first two photos are (I love the b&w one) I think the last photo is my favourite. I know I’m a little strange!

  20. I love all three pics, but that first one is my favorite … I love the colorful framing of the mirror. I think it beautifully captures your creative spirit.

  21. Great photos! I especially love the third photo, it is a quiet, beautiful moment. It tells a story and is also intriguing.

  22. Sandi, your photos are fantastic. You are a beautiful lady, and it sure shows in your self-portait.

  23. Emma Todd says:

Beautiful photos! I love how the mirror frame frames your shot, just perfect

  24. I really adore all three of your shots (as well as your cool tiled mirror), but you look so relaxed in that last one that it’s got to be my favorite. You seem to be concentrating so hard in the first too. In any case, they’re all fab shots of a beautiful subject.

  25. Your photos are wonderful. I am not familiar enough with my camera to set the timer yet. That is part of why I joined. I couldn’t make myself take that first photo. I will submit one later. I am very camera shy. My husband used to say “stop making that picture face” but I can’t help it.
